What an awesome show!
Out of 25 paintings, I came home with just 7. Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by, to Barry for being such a great host, and to Colin for taking on so much of the work (as always) at these events. I had a great time speaking with everyone, and really appreciate all the enthusiasm. Success!
Here's Barry's badass little Femme Fatale figures. Good work, sir!
The real buzz of the night was his in-process "Project Viki" which promises to be one of the coolest inventions ever in existence. I'm not quite sure where to begin explaining that one, so you'll have to check my blog next year for updates on when it will be unveiled. Just think The Time Machine meets old-school arcade games. Yup.
I need to remind myself to find water at some point in the evening on show nights. Inevitably, I end up talking so much that my mouth no longer forms words properly. Even better is the deterioration of brain function from the beginning of the night towards the end. Whereas I started off able to explain the nuances and intricacies of how I work with grace and intelligence, I ended the evening exhausted and confused, blathering some nonsense about balanced-chaos-zen-glow-peace-happy-acrylic-thick-long-time-floor-painting-rock-science-astronomy-universe-stars. I think that was an exact quote. My apologies to the nice art student at the end of the night who was forced to translate my half formed sentences. I blame delirium.
Anyway, this is what's left! (Update: All sold. Thanks!)
If you'd like one of these, email me and I'll reserve it for you. $50 each + $10 shipping if you don't live somewhere in South Orange County. (If you do, then no shipping charge.) Otherwise I'll try to get individual Etsy listings up later this week.
Thanks again!

All Twenty Five
1. natural lighting
2. artificial (interior) lighting
3. combined uv and interior lighting
4. uv lighting only
5. no light (glow in the dark)
Well, here they are. This set was a lot of fun to make. In a sense, I painted it like one large painting, though each one is intended to be sold individually. I'm not sure which l like more: the rainbow gradient, or the black-to-white metallic channels. Another bonus: You can mix and match! Buy a few that bring out all your favorite interior colors.
Each painting is 5x5 inches with a 1.5 inch edge, so it's like a little block of art. It can stand alone on a desk or shelf if you prefer. Or hang a few as a set. Super glow magic makes them glow all night. Extra fun when you wake up in the middle of darkness. :o) The sides are painted black and each one is individually signed in its own color (to match the background.)
$50 each!
A few close ups:
A few of them remind me very much of the inside of rocks. Like when my Grandpa would cut open a rock and there would be jagged, crystal-like craziness on the inside.
Did I mention $50?? :o)
Hope to see you at the show tomorrow! I suppose the earlier you arrive, the better selection you'll have, but either way, I'll be hangin' out till 10pm.

Color Study - Yellow, Pink, Lavender - 2010
What? No raised lines!? :oO

Practicing a few things for a larger painting I'm close to finishing now. This is 100% inspired by our last trip to Hawaii. :o)
Just listed in my Etsy shop for $50!

2 New COLOR STUDIES

Yeesh, I've been workin' lately. I need to start clearing out my studio to make room for bigger (meaning, huge) commission and show pieces that I'm starting. I haven't done two 4ft x 5ft pieces at the same time in my little apartment, since.... well, since last year, for my last show. Somehow it's baffling that I was able to do that at all, especially since I have more room now! Ah well. That's the fun of it. Although, I may have to delay any other commissions that size until after the show, unless we move into a bigger place. Woo studio fun! I still have to fit smaller, but still large show pieces in there too. Hmm.
Oh, the "problems" I have. Totally awesome.
Whoosh
The sound that my new schedule makes. I now have to move at hyper-speed in order to get everything done before *the big show* in November.
Lookie, a new color study:

Available in my Etsy shop.
It's one of two that I worked on along with a new Orange painting that I'm finishing up. I don't know that I'll be doing more (color studies) than that, because of my previously mentioned Whoosh Schedule. I have to streamline my whole process here. There's a lavender moon painting floating around my head that needs to come out and get on canvas soon.
Very soon.

Glossy

And also glassy, but I took these pictures before that happened.
I will list this in my Etsy shop tomorrow, Wednesday.
Lavender & Orange

:oD
I like this one.
This was a study for a larger painting I've been working on for a while. I'd been delaying on finishing it because I wanted to get a few things right without messing up what I'd already done. (No 'undo' button on paintings!)
I think I've figured it out. At the very least, I feel more confident continuing it. I already love the main piece so much that I think I'm going to keep it.
That uv image is killer. I'm really happy with how the colors look.
Here's the Etsy listing: Lavender & Orange
glow, baby, glow
Just listed on Etsy:

Fun little color study. :o)
This one is "purple & gold," which might seem confusing since there are clearly other colors involved, but, you see, it was the purple and gold that I was learning about. That, and how this particular UV pigment works. I think I was studying "antique" rather than a particular color.
Anyway, this was made with the strongest glow pigment available. That picture was not even taken with all the lights off. I could have taken it with the lights off, but I wanted to show you how well it glows even with the lights on!! Supposedly it glows for over 12 hours straight, although I don't even know how I would test this, since it's not even dark out for 12 hours.
You know what that means, right? That means that it should still be glowing by the time the sun comes up, so it should never *not* be light reactive! Hee...
Who needs fireflies? [hey, that gives me an idea for something...]

No circles?!
Have I completely lost my mind?

I had this really cool idea for something, but since "yellow and white" seemed like a difficult thing to paint, I figured I should experiment first. I'm happy with the results, and I'm super excited to start my large version. I didn't intend this specifically, but I find it interesting that it looks like a plumeria. (My favorite flower.)
I was telling Colin that, it's not that it doesn't have a circle, it's that the circle exists outside the edge of the canvas. :o) (Or maybe that's just me.)

Some color.

I've actually got 9 (!) paintings going right now. I think it's a record. Well, actually, the two color studies above are nearly finished, so really it's 7.
They're both studies of larger paintings that are also nearly finished. Yay! I'll list them (with the full set of pictures) in my Etsy shop tomorrow. I just added a little glass to them, for even more fun.
Of course, now that I've expanded my studio, I'm bursting out of it. I knew this would happen. The more space I have, the more paintings I start, and the more space is taken up.
Hurrah.
